Good Times

Good Times

The pandemic was particularly tough on performing musicians. We all lost all of our work. Those of us who are lucky enough to be songwriters could at least pour ourselves into that. This song started with a phone message from a fellow songwriter who was in the midst of recording a new album and asked if I would be interested in collaborating with her on a song for the album. What’s interesting about this song is that we never met in person to write. We never even talked on the phone. Our collaboration took place in a few different voice messages back-and-forth. She started it off by humming a melody into the phone. No words. No chords behind it. She told me she thought it would be really cool to write a song imagining what life might be like coming out of the pandemic when we could all hang out again. I took it and ran with it. The very first thing I came up with was the title. I took the melody that she had hummed to me on the voicemail and wrote the lyrics, changed up the melody and came up with chords to go with it. Then I sang it into my phone and texted her the recording. She played with it a bit and changed the key to fit her voice and sent it back to me, and we both agreed that we liked it. It wound up coming out on her album. Once I heard it, I thought, “damn that’s a great song, I should sing that!” I have recently begun performing it in my own shows and it always goes over great.

Listen to song

I remember the days, so alive
All the good times from the past
Before the joy and laughter
Were swept away so fast
We thought those nights would last forever, we thought they’d never end
I can’t wait to celebrate the good times once again

Anticipating, waiting
Till the hard times have come and gone
Seems a lifetime since I’ve seen ‘ya
Lord, it’s been so long
Soon we’ll be dancing,’ singin,’ makin’ music with our friends
I can’t wait to celebrate the good times once again

It’s been so long—since
You’ve been around—but
I will stay strong—as I
Dream about the day when we’ll no longer be afraid

Then we’ll be huggin, kissin,
Lovin’ on one another
Oh how I miss those smiles,
From my sisters and my brothers
Soon we’ll be together face to face, where the party never ends
I can’t wait to celebrate the good times once again

 —solo section—

It’s been so long—since
You’ve been around—but
I will stay strong—as I
Dream about the day when we’ll no longer be afraid

Then we’ll be huggin, kissin,
Lovin’ on one another
Oh how I miss those smiles,
From my sisters and my brothers
Soon we’ll be together face to face, where the party never ends
I can’t wait to celebrate the good times once again
I can’t wait to celebrate the good times once again
I can’t wait to celebrate the good times once again
