Meant To Be
Meant To Be

Some songs I write from experience, and some are purely fictional. This one is the latter. Oftentimes I can take on the role of an actor when I am writing a song. Lyrically, I was imagining an almost too perfect relationship. I had certainly never had a relationship like the one I laid out in the lyrics. But I let myself go with it and imagine what it would be like to be in a relationship where things just worked. Where we could each accept and embrace each other for who we are. And I wrote about day to day scenarios where maybe having a relationship like that might be a refuge in the midst of an unpredictable world.
Listen to song
I can’t pretend I ever knew the combination
That opened up your heart and made you look my way
But now I find sometimes in a simple conversation
Before I even speak you know the words I’m gonna say
I guess you could say that we’re in tune
In harmony it seems in almost everything we do
We’re two of a kind
And I’m glad that you are mine
Must be some cosmic act of fate
Between you and me
The chemistry is plain to see
You and I were meant to be
Sometimes it seems the world is hanging in the balance
Bad news travels fast and even knocks upon the door
But when I’m with you I find a refuge from the madness
A place where I belong no matter what life has in store
You take me for all that I am
For better or worse you seem to understand
Wherever we go
I’m certain that I know
You are the reason to my rhyme
I think you agree
We go together naturally
You and I were meant to be
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
De, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de
When we’re together a smile is enough
Without a word we can share our love
What I mean is whenever you’re with me
I know we were meant to be
Uh huh
We’re two of a kind
And I’m glad that you are mine
It’s undeniably confirmed
Between you and me
The chemistry is plain to see
You and I were meant to be
You and I were meant to be
You and I were meant to be
