Gimme A Sign

Gimme A Sign

My musical tastes run all over the place. And as a songwriter, those tastes are often reflected in the music I write. I grew up being influenced by all kinds of music. It started out with gospel music in the church when I was young. I was also influenced by the music that my older brothers listened to and everything that was on the radio. Back when a single radio station would play multiple genres of music. And within that mix, I took a particular liking to soul music. Starting with the Motown stuff and moving on to acts like The Stylistics, The Spinners, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Earth, Wind, and Fire, The Chi-lites, and on and on. Some of my favorite singers were black and I would try to imitate them. Often the songs I write don’t fit into any particular genre, but rather, are influenced by multiple genres. This song is me leaning into more of a soulful vibe. With a lyrical theme whereby the narrator is basically saying, “reach out to me if you need a hand, and I will be there for you.”

Listen to song

You got to say what you want
If there’s anything you need
Just say what you want
I got your back leave it to me

‘Cause the day’s gonna come
When you’re gonna need a friend
Give me the word, I’ll be right there
By your side, again and again

Give me a sign
Give me a sign, I’ll make it all right
Anytime
Anytime, day or night
Give me a sign
Give me a sign, I’ll make it all right
Give me a sign
Give me a sign, I’ll make it all right

When times get tough
And a smile just can’t be found
When there’s nowhere to turn
And this old world keeps spinning around and around

Just say what you want
When trouble rears its head
You don’t have to face it on your own
I’ll pick you up don’t ever forget

Give me a sign
Give me a sign, I’ll make it all right
Anytime
Anytime, day or night
Give me a sign
Give me a sign, I’ll make it all right
Give me a sign
Give me a sign I’ll make it all right

If you’re down on your luck I’ll be on the scene
Straight to your side with a remedy
There’s no bind too big or small
Ain’t no problem we can’t solve
Just say what you want
If you carry a heavy load
Don’t ever let it get you down
Remember that you’re never alone

Give me a sign
Give me a sign, I’ll make it all right
Anytime
Anytime, day or night
Give me a sign
Give me a sign, I’ll make it all right
Give me a sign
Give me a sign, I’ll make it all right
