Some of the songs I write are from experience and some are fiction. I wrote this song from an experience I had years ago where I was infatuated with a woman for about a month. We were never in a relationship or anything. I came up with the main keyboard riff and the lyrics at the same time. And at first, as I started to sing the lyrics, I started to feel squeamish because they sounded so codependent. My first instinct was to change them, but then I decided to go with that vulnerability that, to my ear, sounded pretty dysfunctional. I decided to go with it as is because it was honest, and I thought it it might be a feeling others could relate to.
