A Little Love

A Little Love

Some songs come to me completely all at one time, and almost seem to write themselves. Others seem to need to percolate a bit and go through a gestation period. I had the main melodic hook for this song going through my head for quite some time, along with the title "A Little Love." I sort of lived with that for a while as I wrote other songs. Then one day it all just came to me at once and I sat down and wrote the whole thing rather quickly.

A lot of people are always talking about how America seems to be more divided now than ever. Maybe. Maybe not. Looking back throughout our history, there have always big periods of divisiveness. I haven’t watched television in decades. Headlines are written to grab attention, and nothing gets attention more than crises. And bad news. And the news cycle will never run out of bad news. My problem is, they never talk about the good news. And I believe the good news far outweighs the bad news. But when so many people are inundated with the bad news the media constantly shares, let’s face it, because it gets attention, I think a lot of us become brainwashed and start to believe it’s all bad news. This song was my way of saying, “yeah yeah, there’s a lot of bad news, and there always will be. But don’t forget there is also good news.” In the midst of everything, I think it’s critical to not forget that the most important thing we can all do is love each other.

Listen to Song

When the world feels cold and brittle
Maybe it’s time for a little love
When it seems like a losing battle
Like you’ve been tossed and turned and rattled and shoved
When every day is a struggle
Maybe it’s time for a little love

When the car won’t start in the morning
And the roof caves in without warning, that’s tough
To crash and burn at full throttle
Will make you feel like reaching for the bottle, it’s enough
To make you want to run for cover
Into the arms of a lover for love

When it seems like nothing’s right in the world today
And happiness is so far away
Life can feel like a losing game
The harder you try, the more it stays the same
When you’re down on your knees
Everybody needs some love

The headlines shout about trouble
Well maybe it’s time for a little love
If the whole thing comes unraveled
There’s only one way to get things handled: kid gloves
When it all feels so unstable
What we need is a little bit of love

When it seems like everything’s wrong in the world today
And happiness is so far away
It makes you feel like you want to go back to bed
Close your eyes, don’t want to look ahead
It’s easy to see, we all need a little bit of love
Love

Some might say it sounds too simple, they may be right
And there ain’t no way that love’s gonna change their minds
But as for me, I’ve seen enough despair
Fighting never gets us anywhere
When it’s all bad news
There’s nothing to lose
By taking a chance on love
I’m taking a chance on love
I’m taking a chance on love
I’m taking a chance on love

If you really want to solve life’s riddle
Maybe it’s time for a little love
When it’s got you over a barrel
And the best you can do is backpedal, it’s rough
Need a brand new start on the double
To put you right smack dab in the middle of love
In the middle of love
Everyone needs a little bit of love
Love
